Substance Abuse and Addiction Discussed at Community Forum Wednesday, May 31

Alaska Governor Bill Walker has declared a public health crisis in order to combat the state’s opioid epidemic. Substance misuse and addiction are negatively affecting individuals, families and businesses on the Southern Kenai Peninsula, and prescription and non-prescription drugs are a growing concern in the community. Substance abuse was the factor ranked number one as most negatively affecting the community in all three of the last community health needs assessments for the southern peninsula.

First-Ever Inter-Agency Steps Challenge in May

Focusing on the health of our community, these 4 agencies are putting each other to the wellness test! Who will be the most motivated in walking their way to health and win the trophy?

The individual participant goal is 7,500 steps each day. The individual with the most steps wins $250, and those who walk a minimum of 166,067 total steps will be entered into a drawing for the $1,000 cash prize, donated by the South Peninsula Hospital Foundation!

 – 218,934 Cumulative average steps
2nd
South Peninsula Hospital – 210,910 Cumulative average steps
3rd
 SVT Health & Wellness – 209,516 Cumulative average steps

 The Center-  200,960 Cumulative average steps
