Meet the new hospital CEO at the newly expanded Homer Medical Center
The community is invited to meet Joseph Woodin, new CEO of South Peninsula Hospital at an open house at Homer Medical Center on Friday, March 30 from 5:30 – 7:30pm. Guests will tour the newly expanded and remodeled clinic, meet several new healthcare providers on staff at Homer Medical, and welcome Mr. Woodin, who took over as the new CEO earlier this month, succeeding long time CEO Robert Letson who retired last year.
Guest will enjoy prizes, refreshments and the unveiling of a commissioned original piece of art by Marjorie Scholl, donated by the South Peninsula Hospital Foundation. The SPH Auxiliary will be on hand to share plans for exterior beautification.
The clinic expansion was completed by Steiner Construction, under contract with the Kenai Peninsula Borough. The project added 5,584 square feet, including seven new exam rooms, a procedure room, phlebotomy draw room, lab and imaging. The remodel created additional waiting areas in the clinic, a conference room, additional staff break area and additional office space, which allowed the billing office to vacate a leased building and relocate into the newly expanded main facility.
The expansion, publicly funded through South Kenai Peninsula Hospital Service Area general obligation bonds, was necessary to allow for additional practitioners to help address the growing demand for primary care on the southern peninsula. Since the expansion has been completed, three additional providers have started practicing, and one more is expected in July, bringing the total number of providers to 17.
The clinic was started in 1967 by Dr. Paul Eneboe, and is the southern peninsula’s busiest primary care clinic, offering a full scope of family practice treating people through their entire life span, including but not limited to obstetrics, midwifery, pediatrics, well women, general practice, gynecology, gerontology, disease management and more. Homer Medical partnered with South Peninsula Hospital in 2012, and the clinic building was purchased by the Borough in 2015. Homer Medical became a certified Patient Centered Medical Home in 2016 and is currently open six days a week until five, and evenings on Tuesday and Thursdays. Appointments and more information can be found at 235-8586 or www.homermedical.org.
