South Peninsula Hospital provides Safe Sitter certification courses throughout the year during school district breaks or holidays, and sometimes on weekends. We teach the Safe Sitter Essentials Expanded with CPR Course. This program covers safety, child care skills, life & business skills, and first aid & choking rescue skills.  Students even practice infant and child choking rescue on medical-grade training manikins!

Do you feel ready to stay home alone, watch your brothers and sisters while your parents are gone, or babysit for younger children? Then maybe it’s time for Safe Sitter. Safe Sitter is for young teens in grades 6-8 who are ready to learn the skills they need to care for themselves and younger children.

In addition, Safe Sitter teaches young teens life and business skills, so that they know how to be prepared, be responsible, and be considerate whether they are babysitting or doing odd jobs for family, friends, or neighbors.

You’ll have fun. You’ll learn a lot. And at the end of this 2-day certification course, you can proudly say, “I am a Safe Sitter!”

To enroll in a class or get on the waiting list for the next class, you can email us at wellness@sphosp.org or call (907) 235-0285. The class fee is $50 (scholarships available – just ask!) and preregistration is required – class sizes are limited so we ask that you please contact us to receive the registration form and for more information.
