Frequently Asked Questions
Functional Medicine looks for the root cause of disease and addresses lifestyle modifications to enhance personal wellness.
Functional Medicine uses a bigger toolbox than most conventional medicine: medications still have a role and additional tools include food plans, vitamins, minerals, supplements, supporting adequate healthy sleep, supporting adequate social resources, stress management, exercise and restorative practices like yoga, meditation and biofeedback. Sophisticated tests are available to evaluate functions of the body via Functional Medicine labs and all tests results showing imbalance(s) have accompanying strategies offered to restore the imbalance(s) to optimal.
We highly encourage you to establish a primary care provider to complete your annual physical or wellness exam, and/or to address immediate medical needs.
If you have not seen a primary care provider in several years, we suggest that you receive a physical or check up and complete any recommended screenings prior to your Functional Medicine Clinic appointment.
The Functional Medicine Clinic is part of South Peninsula Hospital. Medicaid and Medicare will be billed for your visit through the hospital billing department. Please be aware that any supplements purchased during your visit are not covered by Medicaid or Medicare.
