Pertussis, also called whooping cough, can cause uncontrollable, violent coughing that often makes it hard to breathe. Pertussis is a serious, very contagious illness that can even cause death.

The flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that infect the nose, throat, and lungs. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death.
