    Every first and third Tuesday from 5-7PM at the SPH Training Center at 203 W. Pioneer Ave., anyone in need can safely & confidentially dispose of used needles & obtain clean needles, and access free resources and information including naloxone (overdose) kits, sanitary products, free rapid on-site HIV/AIDS & Hep-C testing and more.

    Additionally, South Peninsula Hospital accepts sharps on the second Wednesday of each month from 1 - 3 p.m. During this time only, sharps will be accepted from the public and only at the loading dock entrance, found on the lower level east side below the main entrance.     Free community yoga continues in April, presented by Erin Brege of Icy Mermaid Yoga. Erin is a certified yoga instructor, local Spanish teacher and global traveler who believes fully in the wellness power of yoga. Free community Yoga is every April in Wednesday from 6-7pm at SPARC, 600 Sterling Highway. All ages and abilities are welcome. Please bring a yoga mat if you have one, a water bottle and some extra layers to this free event.  Questions, call (907) 235-0285 or email wellness@sphosp.org.

    The next upcoming Safe Sitter class at South Peninsula Hospital is on Friday & Saturday,April 7th & 8th from 9am-2:30pm (students must attend both days).

    Safe Sitter is designed to prepare students in grades 6-8 to be safe when they're home alone, watching younger siblings, or babysitting. This instructor-led class is filled with fun games and role-playing exercises. Students even get to use manikins to practice rescue skills like choking rescue and CPR for infants and children!

    Registration is required, please contact SPH Health & Wellness to register by calling (907) 235-0285 or emailing wellness@sphosp.org. The registration fee is $50.00 and scholarships are available upon request. Visit safesitter.org to learn more about the program.

    Homer Steps Up is a FREE community walking challenge that anyone can participate in, because it's all online at homerstepsup.com!

    The SEVENTH annual Homer Steps Up will be from May - May 28, 2023.

    Save the date and start organizing your team for 2023’s Homer Steps Up! Community Walking Challenge! Registration will begin on April 10th for the 6th Annual Homer Steps Up! and the challenge will be four weeks long from May 1 – May 28, 2023.

    Anyone can participate in this fun, healthy challenge by logging their steps using a wearable fitness tracker, smartphone, or even entering them manually! Registration and more info will be at homerstepsup.com. Challenge Details (and stay tuned for more info on Facebook and our website above^).

    Teams of 5-25 members will compete for not only the challenge trophy to keep for the year, but also $500 to donate to the local nonprofit/charity of their choice, and custom Winners of the 2023 Homer Steps Up! Community Walking Challenge T-Shirts for everyone on the team! The next two “Runner Up” Teams will each be awarded $300 and $200 each for the nonprofit or charity of their choice as well. Team scores are a cumulative average of their members’ steps.

    Thank you to The Homer Foundation for sponsoring the nonprofit/charity donations for the 1st, 2nd & 3rd place teams!

    All individual participants reaching at least a weekly step average of 35,000 steps (that's only around 5,000 steps a day!) will be eligible for the weekly prize drawings, and the end of challenge cash prizes! Three winners in three different steps categories (ranging from 5K a day average steppers to >20K a day average steppers) will win weekly prize drawings for Homer Bucks, AND three winners in each of the three categories will win the prize drawings for $100, $200, and $300 cash prizes at the end of the challenge!

    Monthly Board meetings are generally held every fourth Wednesday of the month at 5:30pm.  The public is welcome to attend the meetings virtually and in person in the hospital's conference rooms (located on the lower level - please use the Bartlett Street entrance).

    South Peninsula Hospital, Inc. is non-profit organization governed by an 11-member board of directors which ensures the hospital is fiscally sound while maintaining the quality of care and types of services desired by the residents in the Southern Kenai Peninsula Hospital Service Area.

    The board members are appointed to three-year terms upon completing an interview process by the board's Membership Committee.

    The Board welcomes and encourages community input for the direction of your hospital. Please plan to attend a meeting (public comments are welcomed at the beginning and end of the meeting), or email a message to them at sphbod@sphosp.org.
