The walk-in lab, located inside the South Peninsula Family Care Clinic, is a convenient draw station for any physician-ordered test. No appointment or advance registration is required. Individuals with lab orders from any provider or clinic are welcome. Results are delivered directly to your ordering provider and are typically available quickly through MyChart.

Please note that drug screenings and urine collections must be completed at the main hospital laboratory, located at 4300 Bartlett Street.

Services

Diagnostic and Monitoring Testing

The walk-in lab draws samples for a wide range of physician-ordered diagnostic and monitoring tests to support detection, diagnosis, and ongoing management of medical conditions. From routine bloodwork and metabolic panels to advanced molecular testing for infections and other complex conditions, most testing is performed at the hospital’s in-house lab for faster results. This allows providers to confirm diagnoses, monitor treatment effectiveness, and make timely care decisions, often within hours rather than days.

Wellness Screenings

Most laboratory testing requires an order from a licensed healthcare provider so results can be reviewed and appropriately followed up. We do not offer ongoing self-directed request-a-test” services.

However, discounted self-referred wellness screenings—such as lipid panels, TSH, CBC, Vitamin D, PSA, and Hemoglobin A1C—are available annually through the Rotary Health Fair each November. Additional details about available tests and event information can be found at rotaryhealthfair.org.

What to Expect as a Patient

Walk-In Service

We do not schedule appointments for routine lab work. Patients are seen on a walk-in basis at the South Peninsula Family Care Clinic, 4201 Bartlett Street.

Please note that some specialized tests are only performed on certain days due to send-out requirements. If you are unsure about your test, we encourage you to call ahead to confirm the test will be available when you come in. Also, drug screenings and urine collections must be completed at the main hospital laboratory.

Referrals & Registration

Your provider will either send your lab order directly to us or provide you with one to bring. Although appointments are not necessary, we recommend calling ahead to confirm that your lab order has been received. Once you arrive at the Family Care Clinic walk-in lab, register at the front desk.

Preparing for Your Test

Your provider will give you specific instructions if preparation is required. Some common guidelines include:

  • Lipid Panel: Fast for 10–12 hours prior to testing.
  • Blood Tests: Wear clothing with sleeves that can be easily rolled up.

If you have questions about preparation, please call your provider or the lab before your visit.

Results & Follow-Up

Results are sent directly to your ordering provider and are typically available quickly in MyChart. Your provider will review your results and contact you if follow-up care or additional testing is needed.
