Safe Sitter

Safe Sitter® is a nationally recognized medically oriented course offered to youth in 6th-8th grade. The course is aimed at teaching youth the skills necessary to safely babysit and/or watch siblings at home.The program teaches youth how to handle major and minor medical emergencies and proper child-care skills.

Topics include:

  • Injury Prevention
  • Online Safety
  • Care for a Choking Infant or Child First Aid
  • The Business of Babysitting
  • Basic Child Care (feeding, diapering)
  • Safety for the Sitter Behavior Management

This course provides a well-rounded education that not only focuses on emergency preparedness and child care but also on the professionalism and responsibility required in babysitting. It’s designed to empower young adolescents with the confidence and skills necessary to handle various situations that may arise while caring for children.

Safe Sitter® is offered annually, typically on a Friday & Saturday (if an-service day) or a Saturday & Sunday from 9-2:30pm. The cost is $50, and scholarships are available. To get on the waitlist, email wellness@sphosp.org
