    The 38th annual Rotary Health Fair, sponsored by Homer-Kachemak Bay Rotary Club in cooperation with South Peninsula Hospital, will be conducted under the same COVID-safe protocols as last year and feature two exciting online presentations. New this year are flu shots, available at the time of your appointment!
    The very popular low-cost health screening blood tests will be offered by appointment Monday through Friday, 7:30am-10:30am from October 11-November 5.
    Appointments and payments must be made online in advance. The dedicated, separate location on the South Peninsula Hospital campus will be clearly marked and you will receive instructions upon making your appointment.
    Walk-in and same day appointments are not offered this year due to necessary space restrictions for maintaining physical distancing. Masks will be required, as will COVID-19 screening questions.
    Low-cost comprehensive blood analysis is available for only $55, the same price as last year and at a sizeable discount from the average cost of a comparable test. In addition to the basic panel, additional tests are available for purchase at special health fair rates, including prostate specific antigen, thyroid stimulating hormone, vitamin D level, hemoglobin A1C, cardiac CRP, thyroid free T4, testosterone and hepatitis C screenings.

    “Practical Coping Tools for Troubled Times” – online presentation and Q&A with Dori Hagen, Licensed Professional Counselor

    Dori Hagen, LPC is a licensed professional counselor practicing in Homer. She will be sharing some strategies and resources that may help you with the “pandemic fatigue” of the last 18 months, as well as interpersonal conflicts and increases in mental health issues like depression, anxiety, and substance use.

    Message from Dori: “I am honored to spend some time with you this November.  There is an old proverb that says, “hope deferred makes the heart sick.”  It is my heart’s desire that time spent with you can bring a ray of hope that has been difficult or impossible to see.” 

    Online presentations will be 30 minutes with additional time for questions and sharing as needed. Questions may also be submitted anonymously to wellness@sphosp.org in advance.

    In cooperation with Homer Public Health and the City of Homer, South Peninsula Hospital will be offering a booster shot clinic by appointment only from 9am-1pm at the Homer High School (600 E Fairview Ave) on Saturday October 30th and Saturday, November 6th - links below to make an appointment after confirming your eligiblity.

    Pfizer BioNTechModerna and Janssen COVID-19 vaccine booster shots are available under FDA emergency use authorization and CDC recommended for:

    • anyone who is six months or more after their initial series of the Pfizer or Moderna series and are:
    • anyone who is at least two months after their Janssen vaccine

    Boosters are also available to anyone who is six months or more after their initial series of the Pfizer or Moderna series based on their individual health benefit and risk evaluation for individuals:

    Eligible individuals may choose which vaccine they receive as a booster dose. Some may have a preference for the vaccine type they originally received, while others may prefer to get a different booster.

    Where can I get my vaccine booster?

    • Attend the Mass Vaccination event on Saturday, October 30th at Homer High School. Appointments required. Make Appointment Here NOTE – Only Pfizer and Moderna boosters will be offered at this event.

    The South Kenai Peninsula Hospital Service Area Board regular monthly meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month at 6:30 pm, normally at the hospital, but until further notice on ZOOM.  The Committee of the Whole will meet at 5:30 pm in a worksession. The public is welcome to attend both meetings.  The ZOOM link is available on the Kenai Peninsula Borough website here.
