    In honor of a fabulous pioneer of this program, the needle and syringe exchange is now called “Megan’s Place”. Every first and third Tuesday from 5-7PM at the SPH Training Center at 203 W. Pioneer Ave., anyone in need can confidentially dispose of used needles & obtain clean needles, and access free resources & information including naloxone (overdose) kits, sanitary products, referrals for free HIV and Hepatitis C testing, fresh cookies, and MORE! Safe, confidential FREE community resource run by a great team of discreet, helpful and trained volunteers.

    South Peninsula Hospital will accept sharps on the second Wednesday of each month from 1 – 3 p.m. During this time only, sharps will be accepted from the public and only at the loading dock entrance, found on the lower level east side below the main entrance.

    The South Kenai Peninsula Hospital Service Area Board regular monthly meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month at 6:30 pm, normally at the hospital, but until further notice on ZOOM.  The Committee of the Whole will meet at 5:30 pm in a worksession. The public is welcome to attend both meetings.  The ZOOM link is available on the Kenai Peninsula Borough website here.

    Presented by Carrie Warren, certified family nurse practitioner, this program will discuss obesity management and how to overcome challenges and obstacles as we strive towards health and wellness. Carrie is specialized in obesity medicine, and offers a medical weight loss program at South Peninsula Family Care Clinic.

    Safe Sitter is designed to prepare students in grades 6-8 to be safe when they're home alone, watching younger siblings, or babysitting. This instructor-led class is filled with fun games and role-playing exercises. Students even get to use manikins to practice choking rescue skills and CPR for infants and children!
    The next course is scheduled for Saturday & Sunday, January 22nd & 23rd, 2021 from 9:00am-2:30pm (students must attend both days).
    Registration is required, please contact SPH Health & Wellness to register by calling (907) 235-0285 or emailing wellness@sphosp.org. The registration fee is $50.00 and scholarships are available upon request. Visit safesitter.org to learn more about the program.

    The mission of Project Homeless Connect is to help individuals and families who are experiencing or at risk for homelessness to achieve stability through connection to needed services, resources, information & supplies.

    This 1-day event on Wednesday, January 26th from 10am-2pm will have two locations on the Southern Kenai Peninsula. Project Homeless Connect will be in Homer at the Homer Food Pantry (Homer United Methodist Church, 770 East End Road in Homer) and Anchor Point at the Anchor Point Food Pantry, next to the Anchor River Inn Store at 34361 Old Sterling Highway in Anchor Point.

    Transportation assistance will be available for free - in Homer, local cab rides to the event will be provided by Kostas Taxi. Call (907) 399-8008.

    Free COVID-19 vaccinations will be available, as well as free flu vaccinations. At-home COVID test kits can be provided by request.

    NOTE: There will be a combined Nov/Dec Meeting on Wednesday, December 7th at 5:30pm.

    Monthly Board meetings are generally held every fourth Wednesday of the month at 5:30pm. The public is welcome to attend the meetings virtually.

    South Peninsula Hospital, Inc. is non-profit organization governed by an 11-member board of directors which ensures the hospital is fiscally sound while maintaining the quality of care and types of services desired by the residents in the Southern Kenai Peninsula Hospital Service Area.

    The board members are appointed to three-year terms upon completing an interview process by the board's Membership Committee.

    The Board welcomes and encourages community input for the direction of your hospital. Please plan to attend a meeting (public comments are welcomed at the beginning and end of the meeting), or email a message to them at sphbod@sphosp.org.
