    Homer Steps Up is a FREE community walking challenge that anyone can participate in, because it's all online at homerstepsup.com!

    The SEVENTH annual Homer Steps Up will be from May - May 28, 2023.

    Anyone can participate in this fun, healthy challenge by logging their steps using a wearable fitness tracker, smartphone, or even entering them manually! Registration and more info will be at homerstepsup.com. Challenge Details (and stay tuned for more info on Facebook and our website).

    Teams of 5-25 members will compete for not only the challenge trophy to keep for the year, but also $500 to donate to the local nonprofit/charity of their choice, and custom Winners of the 2023 Homer Steps Up! Community Walking Challenge T-Shirts for everyone on the team! The next two “Runner Up” Teams will each be awarded $300 and $200 each for the nonprofit or charity of their choice as well. Team scores are a cumulative average of their members’ steps.

    Thank you to The Homer Foundation for sponsoring the nonprofit/charity donations for the 1st, 2nd & 3rd place teams!

    All individual participants reaching at least a weekly step average of 35,000 steps (that's only around 5,000 steps a day!) will be eligible for the weekly prize drawings, and the end of challenge cash prizes! Three winners in three different steps categories (ranging from 5K a day average steppers to >20K a day average steppers) will win weekly prize drawings for Homer Bucks, AND three winners in each of the three categories will win the prize drawings for $100, $200, and $300 cash prizes at the end of the challenge!

    Help us kick off the 7th Annual Free Community Walking Challenge Homer Steps Up! 2023 by learning about establishing and maintaining a safe & healthy walking structure, tips on injury prevention, and proper warm-up & stretching techniques.
    ALL ATTENDEES will receive FREE passes for Open Walk/Run at SPARC, and you can throw your name in the hate for a chance to win a pair of trekking poles, too!
    Arrive a little early for snacks & beverages, and stick around afterwards for a special May session of FREE community yoga with instructor Allie Setterquist!
    This event is free and open to all ages & abilities.

    Safe & Healthy Kids Fair Happens May 6

    The 30th Annual Safe and Healthy Kids Fair is set for Saturday, May 6th from 11am-2pm in the parking lot of the Homer High School. This is a free, family friendly event for children of all ages to focus on safety, health, wellness, and fun! It offers more than 25 booths and stations with hands on activities and demonstrations. All attendees are invited to enter their names into a drawing to win one of four brand new bikes of various sizes for different age ranges.

    Kids are invited to bring their bikes and helmets for a free bike inspection and enjoy riding the course of the bike rodeo. Helmets are required, and are available for purchase on site at a discounted rate.

    Other attractions include visits from Beary the Be Well Bear, the infamous teddy bear clinic, stilt walkers, BOB the bookmobile, loads of giveaways, free car seat checks, a children’s circus performance, resources from youth serving agencies, and more!

    Food will be available for purchase, and all proceeds from food and helmet sales help support operational expenses of the fair. The Safe and Healthy Kids Fair is organized by a committee representing local organizations whose missions include facilitating healthy outcomes and injury prevention for youth. The motto reflected at the annual fair is be safe, have fun, do good and pass it on!

Pioneer Ave., anyone in need can safely & confidentially dispose of used needles & obtain clean needles, and access free resources and information including naloxone (overdose) kits, sanitary products, free rapid on-site HIV/AIDS & Hep-C testing and more.

    South Peninsula Hospital, Inc. is non-profit organization governed by an 11-member board of directors which ensures the hospital is fiscally sound while maintaining the quality of care and types of services desired by the residents in the Southern Kenai Peninsula Hospital Service Area.

    The board members are appointed to three-year terms upon completing an interview process by the board's Membership Committee.

    The Board welcomes and encourages community input for the direction of your hospital. Please plan to attend a meeting (public comments are welcomed at the beginning and end of the meeting), or email a message to them at sphbod@sphosp.org.

    Join Homer Steps Up! for the 2023 End-of-Challenge Party and awards at the Karen Hornaday Park Pavilion on Wednesday, May 31 from 5-6PM!
    Music! Door Prizes! Refreshments and more! ALL are welcome to attend!
    We will be awarding the winning team with the trophy and their custom 2023 Homer Steps Up! Champions T-shirts, awarding the top 3 teams with $500, $300 and $200 each in donations to the local charity or nonprofit of their choice, announcing if we reached our community goal of 175 Million Steps Together in May or not, and awarding the individual winners of the end-of-challenge cash prizes!
    Note: The Team with the highest cumulative average steps wins - NOT the first team to reach the "finish line".
