Homer Steps Up! 2019 Community Walking Challenge

Welcome! This is a free community walking challenge open to anyone in the local area.  You can enroll in your already-registered team (registration is free - contact us today!) or as an "Individual Stepper" (please join that team if you're not already on another team!) at homerstepsup2019.challengerunner.com anytime!  Call us at (907) 235-0970 or email wellness@sphosp.org with any questions!

You can also find out more and stay up-to-date with us on Facebook at @homerstepsup2019

    Challenge Details:

The challenge will run for 4 weeks, from May 1 – 28. Teams must register by April 30th, but individuals can join at any time!

Teams: This year, teams of 25 or more will be competing for the Homer Steps Up trophy, and teams of 5-24 will compete for the new Homer Steps Up Small Team Trophy. This allows comparable teams to compete equitably. We also have an Individual Steppers team that, while not eligible for a trophy, will allow anyone who isn’t on a team competing for a trophy to still participate! There is an individual leaderboard in addition to the team leaderboard. The individual leaderboard shows every single participant on any team ranked by steps. The team leaderboard shows each teams cumulative average steps.

If you are interested in joining one of the teams competing for a trophy, message the challenge administrators and with the team’s invitation we can move you from Individual Steppers to another team. Once on a team competing for a trophy, individual participants can only be removed by challenge administrators.

Teams are required to register by April 30th but individuals can join at any time. Registered teams can add members at any time, but the team steps are a cumulative average and adding members later in the challenge will affect the team score.

How to enter my steps: Many popular wearable activity trackers can be paired with Challenge Runner to automatically upload your steps each day. You can also enter your steps manually for each day on your Challenge dashboard, or on the Challenge Runner app. Steps are a daily count but you may enter them at any time during the challenge. You can use a traditional pedometer to count your steps and enter them manually, or your smartphone. There is a maximum allowable amount of recorded steps each day (40,000 steps, which is about 20 miles - yikes!), however, so please enter your steps for each day and do not try to add them all on one day! We can provide paper walking logs for you to record your steps each day so that you can enter them all correctly once a week or whenever is convenient for you. We will be drawing 3 winners from 3 different weekly step total categories on each Monday of the challenge – so make sure to enter your steps for the week before by Sunday night at the latest!

Prizes: In addition to the team trophies, and the weekly prizes, everyone who achieves 300,000 total steps will be eligible to win one of THREE $300 Grand Prizes. Everyone who achieves 250,000 – 299,999 steps will be eligible to win one of three $200 Prizes, and everyone who achieves 200,00 - 249,999 steps will be eligible to win one of three $100 prizes!

Tracker Info: In order to receive data from tracking devices, install the appropriate software and create an account on the activity tracker's website. Every participant must then authorize ChallengeRunner.com to capture individual data as follows:

After logging in, the participant must click the Profile link at the top of the home page and then click the Authorize link. On the tracker website, enter the ID and Password you created when you first registered the device.

Once the device is authorized, the user must ensure that they connect their device to the activity tracker's website at least once per day to sync data.
