January 4, 2019The next Safe Sitter Course is scheduled for Friday, January 4th from 9:00 am - 4:30 pm at South Peninsula Hospital. Registration is required by January 2nd - to register, please contact South Peninsula Hospital Health & Wellness at wellness@sphosp.org or by calling (907) 235-0970.
Safe Sitter is for students in grades 6-8 to learn skills to be safe when they're home alone, watching younger siblings, or babysitting. We will practice infant and child choking rescue, as well as infant and child CPR in addition to the other safety skills, first aid, life & business skills and child care skills.

January 5, 2019Join South Peninsula Hospital and Peninsula Radiation Oncology Medical Director John Halligan, MD at SPARC (600 Sterling Hwy next to Homer Middle School) for our next “Walk with a Doc”! All are welcome Saturday, January 5th from 9:00 am-10:00 am for Dr. Halligan's brief open mic on cancer and spend the rest of the hour walking at your own pace, chatting & asking any questions. This is a free event, open to all ages and abilities! There is parking up at the SPARC and down below in the Homer Middle School Parking lot as well as a newly paved walking path from the Middle School parking lot! Walk with a Doc is a nationwide walking program for everyone interested in taking steps for a healthier lifestyle. What better way to start your weekend than on your feet making strides to help your heart and improving your general health to live longer! While you walk at your own pace, you’ll have the opportunity to have questions answered by local physicians.
There will be free blood pressure screenings, prizes, and refreshments!
Please bring clean indoor walking shoes.

January 15, 2019Childbirth, Newborn Care, and Breastfeeding classes offered free of charge to Homer Medical Center clients. These classes are all held on Tuesday Evenings from 5:30pm - 7:30pm in the South Peninsula Hospital Conference Rooms 1 & 2 (park in the lower parking lot and enter through the double doors by the cafeteria).
You may bring a coach with you to class, you may bring food, and you may come to all, just a few or even one class!

Living Well Alaska is a six week group workshop for people dealing with ongoing health conditions or their family or caregivers. People with all kinds of long term conditions such as arthritis, asthma, diabetes, heart disease, and other illnesses can benefit. It offers fun with others while you practice skills to live life to the fullest and meet day-to-day challenges. At a Living Well Alaska workshop, you will learn the skills to set goals, problem solve understand and handle symptoms, eat well and be active, deal with difficult emotions and work with your health care team
The cost is only $10 for the entire six-week series. Registration is required. For more information and to register, please call the hospital’s education department at (907) 235-0258.

January 23, 2019Monthly Board meetings are generally held every fourth Wednesday of the month at 7:00pm in the hospital’s conference room. The public is welcome.
South Peninsula Hospital, Inc. is non-profit organization governed by a nine-member board of directors which ensures the hospital is fiscally sound while maintaining the quality of care and types of services desired by the residents in the Southern Kenai Peninsula Hospital Service Area.
The board is an all-volunteer board, with members appointed to three-year terms upon completing an interview process by the board’s Membership Committee.
The Board welcomes and encourages community input for the direction of your hospital. Please plan to attend a meeting (public comments are welcomed at the beginning and end of the meeting), or email a message to them at sphbod@sphosp.org.
