Welcome Home Christy (Walkden) Martinez, MD

Christy Martinez, MD, Board Certified in Family Medicine is the newest member of the medical staff at South Peninsula Hospital and Homer Medical Center.  Better known to local residents by her maiden name Walkden, Christy was born at South Peninsula Hospital, raised in Homer, and graduated from Homer High School in 2001.

Dr. Martinez attended University of Washington Medical School and completed her residency at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center in California.  She is practicing the full spectrum of family medicine at Homer Medical Center, but enjoys adolescent health care and has additional training in chemical dependencies and substance abuse.  She, her husband and 4 month old son moved to Homer this summer to be closer to her parents and siblings, particularly her sister Ivy Betts, RN, who is the department manager of the hospital’s Home Health services.

South Peninsula Hospital welcomes new radiologist Edson Knapp, MD, and his wife, gynecologist Renda Knapp, MD to the hospital’s medical staff and the community. Both received their medical degree at University of South Florida, and practiced medicine in Florida and most recently in Tennessee.

Renda is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology. She handles high-risk obstetrics, treats menopause, offers gynecology surgeries, treats women with urinary and bladder problems and provides general OB/GYN care. She is now seeing new patients at Homer Medical Center.

Edson is Board Certified in Radiology and Fellowship Trained in Oncologic Imaging and Interventional Radiology. As one of two staff radiologists, he offers support for other physicians for diagnostic imaging. He also provides minimally invasive image-guided diagnosis and treatments including but not limited to steroid injections, biopsies, and specialty procedures like kyphoplasty, which is the surgical filling of an injured or collapsed vertebra.

The Knapps and four of their children recently relocated to Homer from Tennessee.

South Peninsula Hospital and Homer Medical Center announce the full time obstetrics and gynecology practice of Katie Ostrom, MD.  Dr. Ostrom attended Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas and completed her residency at the University of New Mexico.  She practiced for the last ten years in Anchorage, most recently at Alaska Women’s Health, and has offered regularly scheduled clinics in Homer for the last several years.

Katie specializes in women’s health for all ages, offering office visits, in-office procedures and obstetric and gynecological surgical services at the hospital.  She is now accepting new patients at Homer Medical Center.  Call 235-8586 for an appointment.
